I have been exceptionally creative since I was a child, much to the chagrin of my mother. Growing up in Southern Ontario, I was the youngest of three girls, always able to keep myself occupied by making clothes, learning instruments, writing songs, riding horses, pencil sketching, journaling, writing stories, reading, or enjoying any number of other mentally-stimulating ventures. In this life, I love people, and I crave new experiences. I work hard, and I cannot stop my mind from coming up with new and creative ways to do things.
The English language, with its etymology and applications, has always appealed to me. Thanks to my mother, I was taught to read at a very early age. This gave me the freedom to read alone, discovering people and worlds that I never would have been able to conjure in my own mind. My love of words and the power they wield has only grown since then. While working as a copywriter in many different settings, from digital advertising to corporate communications for a national organization, I have developed the ability to write in many different voices and styles. This is a challenge which I enjoy, and at which, I just so happen to excel.
My need for constant creative expression has addressed itself in many fascets of my life. In order to have complete, creative control over my environment, I have learned an array of home renovation techniques, I have learned to make my own clothes, and I have also continued my study of digital design beyond what was offered with my formal education, in order to create different types of digital materials for employers, friends, and family. I enjoy the challenge of visualizing what I want and then sourcing whatever I will need to bring that vision to life. This is often evident in my sketches, logo design, house improvements, websites, graphic design, and layouts (both physical and digital).
Even the smallest church in the middle of sprawling farm country is dependent on a good social media plan. Our communities and lives are lived out, in part, through the digital world, and those who cannot adapt well to that world will miss out on all of the opportunities which digital communities provide. That includes business opportunities, pulling numbers for funraising and events, and larger demographic reach. I have been privileged to work with some amazing individuals who taught me the basics of well-rounded social media involvement with marketing, advertising, SEO, analytics, and effective scheduling.
In addition to becoming proficient with the development and implementation of marketing goals and strategies, I have also had the opportunity to utilize many different platforms for digital marketing, advertising, events, e-mail blasts, e-commerce, and analytics management. Integration of multiple platforms for maximum functionality has also become somewhat of a fun, personal challenge for me. I enjoy finding the best ways to integrate multiple technologies for the lowest costs possible, while keeping marketing goals at the heart of these integrated solutions. This keeps my marketing communications strategies streamlined and efficient.
Doritos offered the opportunity to submit commercial ideas to their website. I submitted this video. I was rewarded with some free Doritos and the knowledge that I inspired a Superbowl ad as a mere student.
Inspired by my video submission, Doritos made this Superbowl advertisment showcasing the best part of the Doritos-eating experience. I will forever remember the letter they sent to me thanking me for my idea.
I had a lot of fun making this bumper video to promote a series that IPC was planning to run from the fall of 2018 to the spring of 2019. I learned a little more about layering techniques, perspective distortion, and royalty-free sound sourcing. The final result is a video, of which I am exceptionally proud.
The Nicaragua Mission of Hope is a dedicated group of individuals who frequently travel to Nicaragua to support and encourage the leaders in charge of the churches and schools which they have helped to build over the years. This video was a thank you to all supporters of their golf fundraiser.
While working for the C&MA in Canada, I was given the opportunity to help create monthly vlogs for the president. My experience with these projects included brainstorming ideas, writing scripts, filming, and editing. These vlogs were a lesson in balancing creativity with practicality and concise storytelling.
